Membership Rules

In order to qualify for membership in the Mayflower Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club, it is necessary to:

A). Attend three membership meetings (one of these being a Club meeting other than the Annual Specialty) OR two membership meetings PLUS actively participate (i.e. volunteer to work) in a Club sponsored event. The applicant must be introduced at one of the membership meetings attended. Meeting dates and locations are posted under the 'events' header of this website.

B). Have two sponsors: a Proposer and an Endorser, who have been members of the MPWCC for at least a year. They must be members in good standing, come from different families and/or households, and must have known the applicant for six months during which time they have observed the applicant's dog-oriented activities.

2. APPLICANTS WILL BE VOTED INTO MEMBERSHIP TWICE A YEAR - IN JUNE AND NOVEMBER. The application will be processed following the described schedule, and all dates must be adhered to in order to expedite the procedure.

3. Applications are obtained for you by your sponsor from the Recording Secretary. The membership packet consists of an application, information describing the membership procedure, a list of the yearly meetings and a copy of the Code of Ethics.

4. The application must be filled out entirely, signed and sent with a check for one year's dues to the Proposer. Dues for single members are $42.00 per year; for each additional member of the household, add another $20.00. Checks should be made payable to the MPWCC.

5. Both the Proposer and Endorser must sign the application and write an informative letter of Proposal. When the application file is complete, with signatures, letters and check, it should be submitted to the Recording Secretary. For June election to membership, the application must be received by February 1st; for November election, the date is July 1st.

6. The Recording Secretary will then forward the completed application to the Membership Chairman. The Membership Committee will promptly prepare brief synopses of each applicant, which in mid February/July, the Recording Secretary will send to the membership asking for letters expressing support or concern for the candidate. These comments should be returned to the Membership Chairman by March 15th/August 15th.

7. The Membership Committee will review the application file, seek additional information is necessary, and present its recommendations to the Board of Directors at its May/October meeting. The Membership Chairman will keep the application and enter information as the application moves toward membership approval.

8. The application must be passes by an affirmative vote of 2/3 of the entire Board in accordance with the Bylaws. The Recording Secretary will notify the applicant of Board approval and will list the names of the applicants so approved on the notice of the June/November meeting at which the membership will vote on the application. The applicant's check will be sent to the Treasurer upon Board approval. The Proposer of any candidate not being put forward to membership will be called immediately, and the Recording Secretary will follow up with a letter within ten days.

9. At the June/November membership meeting the applicants approved by the Board and listed on the Meeting notice shall be voted upon by secret ballot. An affirmative vote of 3/4 of those ballots cast shall be required for election to membership.

10. The Recording Secretary will send each new member a welcoming letter from the Club, a copy of the Bylaws, a current membership list and a description of any Club Award system or privileges. The new Member will receive the Club's newsletter and all subsequent Club mailings.

11. The Proposer, Endorser or candidate may withdraw the application at any time during the process.
